Adding volume to the face is a great way to restore youthful contours and smoothness—but not all volume is equal, at least when it comes to where filler is injected. In high-motion areas, injectable gel can remain stubbornly fixed, keeping the results from looking as natural as possible. That’s where the RHA® Collection at Palm Beach’s Carroll Dermatology comes in. This filler is made with motion in mind, giving it the ability to adapt to the various expressions you make each day. That means beautifully natural results, whether your muscles are at work or not.
Using hyaluronic acid in dermal fillers is nothing new, but creating hyaluronic acid that closely mimics the skin’s own natural,water-loving sugar molecules is an advancement on the treatment. Historically, dermal fillers introduced gel that added volume, but was best applied to areas where not much was happening in terms of activity. In other words, filler injections were great at adding volume to address loss of collagen, fat, and bone, but didn’t do as well when it came to dynamic lines.
The RHA® Collection is made of hyaluronic acid (HA) molecules that have been cross-linked in a specific way that allows them to be especially durable to provide long-lasting volume, but not so “rigid” that they can’t adapt to dynamic facial action.
Like all fillers, a patient’s chosen formulation in the RHA® Collection is injected into the superficial dermis and dermis of the fact—in other words, the upper layers of skin—where it provides lasting volume. Skin can appear depleted, lax, deflated, and hollow over time due to the age-related breakdown of natural collagen and hyaluronic acid, as well as the effects of sun and environmental damage.
We offer our clients a topical numbing agent to reduce the minimal discomfort that injections can sometimes cause. We also use a chill plate to cool the injection site for added comfort. Most of our clients report minimal sensation during the treatment with these methods.
The Carroll Dermatology injectors work with all of the RHA® Collection, which can be used for standalone treatments, combined for enhanced effects, or paired with other options to give the entire face a naturally rejuvenated look.
- RHA® Redensity™
Considered to be the option for “fine-tuning,” Redensity™ is ideal for providing “finishing touches” to the appearance, especially when it comes to smoothing moderate to severe wrinkles around the mouth (known as perioral rhytids). Since the mouth is a highly active area, this gel works well to provide natural-looking results that adapt to the constant motion involved with talking, smiling, eating, drinking, and more.
- RHA® 2
This formulation is made to address moderate to severe dynamic wrinkles and folds, such as the parenthesis-like creases that develop next to the mouth and nose. Known as nasolabial folds, these lines appear due to volume loss, but can become more pronounced due to frequent movement in the area.
- RHA® 3
Another option for moderate to severe facial folds and wrinkles, this filler can also be used to enhance the lips. Whether a patient’shave always been thinner than they’d like, or a once pillowy and full look has diminished with age, this filler can be the pout-enhancing solution.
- RHA® 4
The “heavy hitter” of the group, this formulation is made to minimize moderate to severe dynamic folds on the face—such as parenthesis lines or nasolabial folds—which are related to significant movement. The gel can also be used to correct deeper deficits, as it is injected the deepest of any other filler in the collection.
Although the RHA® Collection is well-suited for dynamic areas, certain motion-related wrinkles are better addressed with a muscle-relaxing neuromodulator, such as BOTOX®. Dynamic wrinkles—including crow’s feet or frown lines—can be relaxed for months at a time.
The Carroll Dermatology injectors have decades of experience working with injectables, having been thoroughly trained on a variety of fillers—including the RHA® Collection. We work with each patient as an individual, tailoring the session and results to reflect their unique characteristics and goals. Each injectable filler—as well as each different formulation in the RHA® Collection—requires specific knowledge of application, facial anatomy, and long-term results. Our goal is always to provide a beautifully natural look, and to do it safely while maximizing the patient experience.
This starts at a private consultation, which is a crucial face-to-face meeting that allows us all to “get on the same page” when it comes to your cosmetic dermatology treatment strategy. Our consultation will include a detailed conversation that involves your medical history, the specific signs of aging you’d like to address, your goals for your face, and more. This is also when you will be able to ask us questions about treatments—both generally and specifically—and get answers that can help you to make a confident choice.
The injections themselves are quick and relatively painless. Most patients say that the poke from the needle actually feels more like someone pinching their skin. Each session will vary in length, with the duration depending on exactly which areas are getting treated, as well as how many different areas are getting treated. On average, however, patients can expect their session to last no longer than a typical lunch break. We want you to enjoy beautiful results—as well as minimal disruption to your daily schedule!
As with most injections, patients can expect some minor side effects to develop just after their RHA® treatment session—and for these effects to quickly resolve. Slight bruising and swelling are common. In fact,it’s important to be aware of the swelling, since some patients see their results just after their session and aren’t happy with how very full they look.Post-injection swelling can cause the treatment area to look fuller than in actually is, so as this side effect fades, the truly natural-looking result will become increasingly apparent.
Be sure to avoid pressing on the injection sites or rubbing them in the days after an RHA® treatment session. Pushing on the filler can cause it to move out of the area where it was injected to add volume. It is also important to follow whatever specific after-care instructions come from the Carroll Dermatology team.
No matter the specifics, injectable gel is visible as soon as it is inserted into the skin. The added volume will last for months.
The Carroll Dermatology offers a range of dermal fillers beyond the RHA® Collection, including the hyaluronic acid-based Juvéderm® family and Radiesse® collections, as well as Revanesse® Versa™. Sculptra®, another injectable option, focuses on encouraging natural collagen production as opposed to adding the volume itself.
